Dr. Doug Ryen earned his Doctor of Optometry degree from The Ohio State University College of Optometry in 2000. He joined Pickerington Eye Care in 2001, where he continues to see patients. He purchased Newark Optometry in 2019 from his former classmates – Dr. Cheryl Wood Eckhardt and Dr. Kathy Wise – when they decided to begin the retirement process. He then purchased the New Lexington location from his colleague, Dr. Robert Dittoe.
Dr. Ryen’s wife, Kelly, is also an optometrist; she currently sees patients in Zanesville and had worked with Dr. Dittoe in the past. They have two daughters, Elin and Isla, who attend St. Francis Elementary in Newark.
Dr. Ryen is currently a member of the American Optometric Association and Ohio Optometric Association. Originally from Punxsutawney, PA, he graduated in 1996 from Penn State University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology. He is an avid Nittany Lions, Steelers, and Buckeyes fan, and enjoys playing golf.
Dr. Monica Braun
Dr. Monica Braun was born and raised in Sandusky, Ohio. She is a Buckeye through-and-through, having attended The Ohio State University for 8 years. During that time, she obtained a Bachelor of Science in psychology with a minor in neuroscience. She then went on to achieve her Doctorate of Optometry in 2020. Dr. Braun has experience in many clinical settings including: White River Junction, Vermont VA Medical Center, Ohio State Upper Arlington Outpatient Services, Vision Professionals of Worthington Hills, and Comprehensive Eye Care in Columbus, Ohio.
Dr. Braun is a member of the Ohio Optometric Association and the American Optometric Association. She welcomes patients of all ages and especially enjoys fitting specialty contact lenses, managing dry eye, and treating ocular disease including glaucoma, macular degeneration, and diabetic retinopathy. Her hobbies include traveling, cooking, and walks with her golden retriever.
Dr. Farah Hamade
Dr. Hamade obtained her undergraduate degree at the University of Michigan-Dearborn graduating with a Bachelors of Science in Biochemistry. She completed her doctorate degree at The Ohio State College of Optometry. She is the recipient of the Binocular Vision and Pediatrics Clinical Excellence Award. Her training includes specialty clinics at the Ohio State University, Salt Lake City VA Medical center, Eye Specialists of Ohio, Lower Lights Christian Health Center and Midvalley Behavioral Health Center. Her areas of interest include primary eye care, pediatrics and ocular disease with an emphasis on macular degeneration, glaucoma and dry eye. She is also a current member of the American and Ohio Optometric Associations. Outside of clinic she enjoys spending time with her husband Ali, her cat Milo and hiking at national parks across the country.
Dr. Magnolia Ip
Dr. Ip completed her undergraduate degree at The Ohio State University and received her Doctor of Optometry from The Ohio State University College of Optometry in 2019. Dr. Ip loves getting to know her patients and helping them address any vision concerns. Her primary interests include ocular disease such as dry eye and glaucoma! Dr. Ip enjoys traveling and participating in community service. She plans to volunteer for service trips with VOSH in the future. During her free time, she loves spending time with her husband, family and friends, traveling, cooking, hiking, and playing the piano.
Misty Martin, Office Manager
Misty graduated from Newark High School in 1998. Misty Graduated from Mount Vernon Nazarene University in 2019 receiving a bachelor degree in BBA majoring in management. Misty is currently working on her masters degree in BBA majoring in management and marketing expected graduation date of 11/2021. Misty enjoys flower gardens and fishing in her spare time. Misty has been with the office for 16 1/2 years.
